PIXAR 30 YEARS OF ANIMATION (Hong Kong Celebration of Friendship and Family)

To Infinity And Beyond!
Pixar and Ghibli are my favorite studio, their works are very meaningful. When I learn the making of Toy Story (from Steve Jobs's biography), how John Lasseter and Steve Jobs fight against for their belief, (Woody is defaulted to be a bastard), I am very touched.

Salute Pixar!

"The journey in life is the reward. It's great to achieve things, but when you do, you want to have your family and friends around to help celebrate..." - John Lasseter

Toy Story, Pixar's first film, would set the tone for all the movies to follow at the studio. First and foremost, the emphasis was always on heart, character and relationships...

Inside Out was inspired by director Pete Docter's experience as a parent watching his daughter grow up... Ellie was about 11, and she'd become quiet and withdrawn. It made him think, "What's going on in her head and why is she changing...?"

One of the central relationships of Ratatouille, the improbable story of a rat who aspires to become an elite chef, is the one between the protagonist, Remy and Linguini, the bumbling commis who becomes Remy's human hands and face in the kitchen...

"Spot teaches Ario about bravery and gives him strength" says Sohn...

The story seed that would grow into Brave came from an observation co-director Brenda Chapman had made about her relationship with her young daughter. "She was so passionate and so strong, and she was four at the time," says Chapman, "I thought What's she going to be like as a teenager...?"

The story of Cars arose interestingly enough from a long-overdue vacation. As director John Lasseter recalls, "My wife Nancy said to me that if I didn't slow down and start paying attention to the family, the kids would be going off to college before I knew it and I would be missing a huge part of our family life..." "The journey in life is the reward. It's great to achieve things, but when you do, you want to have your friends around to help celebrate..."

Up director Pete Docter says, "the world is really about relationships, and that's what (our hero) Carl comes to discover..."

The fantastical world of The Incredibles had its origins in the very everyday concerns of its writer-director, Brad Bird...

"What if mankind had to leave Earth and somebody forgot to turn the last robot off, and he didn't know he could stop doing what he's doing?" "I became fascinated with the loneliness that this situation evoked and the immediate empathy that you had for this character," says WALL-E director Andrew Stanton...

The emotional core of Finding Nemo came from an experience that writer/director Andrew Stanton had with son... That ultimately led him to the premise that fear can deny even a good father from being one...

The heart of the Monsters movies is the friendships between James P. Sullivan and Mike Wazowski. In the first film, the relationship is tested by the change Sulley undergoes when he befriends a human child he names Boo...

The studio created another memorable cast of characters in its seconds film, A Bug's Life. Filk, the story's protagonist, it a passionate inventor whose out-of-the-box thinking often clashes with his colony's more standardised approach to life. Hoping to find a way for his community to escape the extortionate demands of gang of marauding grasshoppers, Filk stumbles upon a troupe of idiosyncratic circus bugs...

Coco, Pixar's newest film, also centres on family relationships, but this time, on the connection we have with the family members who have come before us, and in many cases, have never met...
